The 2011 vintage Mâcon-Verzé
There was some snow at end-November and during December. Following that the winter was a fairly mild and dry one (January and February).
March was mild, starting the vegetation off early at the end of the month.
Budburst was very steady in April thanks to summery temperatures.
May was a lovely month. The vines continued their growth and the first flowers appeared around the 19th.
June was lovelier still, as was the first week in July. Starting on 7 July, however, cool damp weather set in.
The warm sunny weather that returned in August finished ripening the grape bunches, which were harvested starting on Friday 2 September.
To sum up, "early" is the defining word for the 2011 vintage.
The wines have a good acid structure balanced by delicious sugary fruit, the whole underpinned by excellent minerality.
